Fresh. Provocative. Real. Raw. Inspiring. These are just some of the words I think fitting to describe the wonderful blog Medicinal Marzipan. Mara writes about topics close to my heart including body image, self love, and living a real and authentic life. The thing I love most about Mara is that she injects a great deal of herself into her blog. She isn’t afraid to share her point of view or get incredibly honest about her own thoughts and feelings about personal topics that I believe many of us think about but sometimes are too afraid to discuss. To me that makes her one inspirational young woman.

Medicinal Marzipan is draught after draught of trust serum. Mara’s work is a rare combination of personal expose, incisive commentary, and love.It frees me, again and again, to trust more deeply that I can see and name my body and experiences honestly, and simultaneously (rather than in spite of that) know myself loved.

Of all the many blogs I subscribe to, Medicinal Marzipan is among my very favorites. Each time I read it I take something away that I find invaluable. In fact, the last blog I read stopped me in my tracks, made me laugh aloud and helped me to arrive at a clear decision that felt muddy until that moment! I find this blog to be cutting edge clever, laugh out loud funny, nakedly authentic and profoundly practical. The focus on loving and accepting ourselves and our bodies is so helpful in a world where so many of us have spent most of our lives mired down in self hatred and immobilized by an unrelenting aversion to the skin we live in. If you are on a course of self inquiry and discovery, want to begin to love and accept yourself (perhaps especially your body) and want to know truly and definitively that you are not alone, love yourself enough to subscribe to this blog.

There are a lot of body image blogs out there. But, here’s the thing I noticed about Medicinal Marzipan that not only made me come back and read more, but made me want to reach out and need to know who the voice is behind the words. Mara not only loves her readers, but genuinely cares about the well-being of every person that comes here to read. She stretches herself and digs deep for her wisdom and always amazes me with her true gift of writing, relating and authenticity. There’s something truly beautiful about a woman who can turn her own struggles into a place to help countless others.Medicinal Marzipan is a true gift.Andrea Owen, Your Kick Ass Life Coaching |
What sets Medicinal Marzipan apart is the fact that it feels like I’m reading a letter from a friend. Mara’s good faith, persistence, and honesty brings the reader closer and closer–she doesn’t hold back, this girl, and it feels like I’m gossiping with a girlfriend. I’ve already told all of my friends to read the blog, and I’ve been slowly but surely practicing my own radical self-love, and I owe it all to Mara. In her post “The Marzipan Manifesto,” Mara wrote “You need me.” And it is so true. I didn’t know how much I deserved and how much I could love myself before she and this blog came into my life. – Rachel F.
I don’t think there’s enough room for all the things that are great about MM, so I’ll just go with the fact that it’s very honest and down-to-earth with no tip-toe-ing around issues that are important to approach in a straightforward way. – Alice O.
I’m sure you get hundreds of emails like this, but I just wanted to let you know that your blog is one of the most amazing websites I have ever read. Actually, scratch that, it’s THE most amazing. I just watched your video response to the first homework assignment, and I was mesmerized. You have such amazing wisdom and insight, and honesty which many blog/sites attempt but fail at. Like everyone who reads your blog I am fighting my own demons, and I’m so glad your website is there. It’s going to be a wonderful resource for me, I can tell. – Jen F.
I can’t think of anything else to say – but your blog is really making a huge difference in my life right now. So, thank you. – Emma S.
