About
Medicinal Marzipan is a blog about body image and unconditional self love, as well as learning to lead a positive and authentic life. Frequent topics include healthy living, body image, love, relationships, sex, and compulsive eating. If a blog was a room, Medicinal Marzipan would be a really comfortable living room or a front porch – where there is an abundance of coffee, love, and sometimes a little gossip about the neighbors.
Marzipan Then
Since I was a little girl, I have run the gamut from fat to thin to fat again, and everywhere in between. I have experienced first hand the impact of body image and self esteem on every aspect of my life, from my sexuality, to getting dressed in the morning, to having enough courage to embrace my dream life. This blog represents my commitment to myself to work every day towards improving my own body image and self awareness, and to inspire you to do the same.
Marzipan Now
I love my body no matter what my pant size or relationship status – and when it’s difficult, which it often is, I LOVE IT HARDER. I am training to run my first 5k. I like these things: yoga, copious amounts of coffee, YOU, avocados, filling notebooks with insane ideas, and making those insane ideas real.
In short – I want to help you love yourself.
If you are brand new here, WELCOME! Kick back and browse the MM archives or top posts, and let me know what you think. If you like what you’ve read, and would like to be kept up to date on all marzipan comings and goings, subscribe via RSS or email or find me on facebook.
“Official” Bio
I am a twenty-five year old with an English degree, a penchant for body image activism, an often over active imagination, and a desire to love and adore myself and others truly and imperfectly and to the best of my abilities. I became a certified living foodist (raw foodist) at the Ann Wigmore Institute in 2007, and am beginning the Simmons College School of Social Work Fall 2010. My writing has been published in traditional print media [Feminist Studies - pending, Zij aan Zij, and Whole Terrain], as well as on a variety of healthy living blogs. This blog is a record of my recovery from a lifetime of fear, mistrust, and self loathing, and a testament to how wonderful life can be once you decide to let go and learn to love yourself.

I have yet to actually read a post yet (but I’ll be sure to check out most of them soon!) but I have SO much support for what your site aims to do. I try to do the same, at least, for my friends, but I want to work on a larger scale as well. Beautiful site (I’m majoring in English/Literature too!) … love it. Subscribing :)
This is beautiful, subscribed to your feed!
Thanks Luana! And welcome : )

+1
I stumbled upon your site randomly one day last week, and I’m so glad I have. What makes it really special to me is that I can see a bit of myself in you. (I’m graduating next year – ack! – with degrees in English and Communications) I’m trying to focus on using writing as a way to love and accept myself the way I am, and I think this is going to be really helpful. Thank you :)
Hey Beth! So glad you found me : ) Let me know if you have any questions or topics that you would like to see covered here at Medicinal Marzipan. xox.
I’m new to the site, a friend of mine posted your facebook page on my page and I’ve been following ever since. I’ve read almost every post and love every bit of what you’re doing here! You’re an inspiration to me, I have been on a long road to find the courage to embrace my size and my beauty and this makes me feel that I am not alone in this journey and that not ALL overweight women subscribe to societies limitations. I tip my hat to you, Marzipan, “Get it girl!”
Thank you so much shannon! What a lovely compliment! And welcome to MM, please remember it is about my journey as well as yours and always always know that you can shoot me an email or tweet or FB message if you have any questions or topics that you’d like to see me cover. Seriously. I love nothing more than hearing from readers about their own personal stories/problems/lives/opinions on issues that I discuss here. xo.
Your site is absolutely lovely! Great writing; keep up the good work!
