A Day in the Life of Marzipan: The Store

by Marzipan on August 10, 2010 · 5 comments

Hi guys!

So I am quite aware that I have been absent for the past couple of days, and that I owe you many updates! BUT today’s post has a very specific purpose. I have silently had a dynamic badge in the sidebar for quite some time – first with a SOMETHING EXCITING IS COMING! and then a countdown and now, magically, an OpenSky Founder’s Club badge.

Been curious what is going on?

Perhaps you have and perhaps you haven’t – regardless – I am opening a store. Quite some time ago now, I contacted OpenSky about the possibility about opening a store because I was drawn to their mission statement which is based upon building relationships as opposed to blindly selling goods to the masses. OpenSky works with people who already have an audience, like bloggers or celebrities or magazine editors, to create stores based upon the reputation of the person selling, and on the notion that people like to buy things on the recommendation of people they like.

As in – I am only ever, ever, ever going to offer you something that I love with all of my heart and use in my REAL life on a daily basis.

This has been true already of the affiliate books that I’m selling in the sidebar and sometimes refer to. Reality is – blogging rarely pays the bills, and profits garnered from affiliate sales help me keep this little dream of mine up and running.

A Day in the Life of Marzipan: The Store is going to operate in exactly the same way.

I will refer to items naturally, as the are things that I use daily, but will never be gearing posts towards a hard sell in any way. All of these items will be linked to my store, where, if you are interested, you can purchase them at your leisure. By purchasing items from me instead of somewhere else, you will be helping support this website and my work here.

But, truly, the bottom line is, I do not lie. If I hate something, not only will I tell you, but I also will not be selling it now or ever. I strive to be impeccable with my word, and present myself both online and off as honestly as I am absolutely capable, no matter what, because I think that it is crucial that people know that they can depend on you whole heartedly.

Anywho – my first product will be up this week, and I will slowly accumulate them, as I begin the process of contacting all of my favorite businesses to see if they would be interested in supplying my store. Be on the lookout for all kinds of exciting things from my FAVORITE yoga mat, to the magical vitamins that left me acne free for the first time in my life, to all kinds of stuff from around my house.

And if you hate it – ignore it, I promise it’s not going to interfere with your MM enjoyment in any way.

OOooooo AND from now until August 16th you can get a 25% off discount from any OpenSky store by using the code EXCITE25. Which is kind of really awesome – and I, myself, am seriously considering a major purchase perhaps in the form of a VitaMix, which I have long coveted and would like a discount on ; )

Also – stay tuned this week for some good posts I’ve been working on, including a write up of what I learned at BlogHer (the emotional stuff), the statement “oh but you’re a PRETTY fat girl”, an interview with DANIELLE LAPORTE, and so very much more.

I’m sure there are some that dislike the “commercialism” associated with creating a store, but I personally think it’s a fantastic idea. I love to see what others I know (I use “know” loosely, I suppose…) enjoy and would love to support those people when they are doing wonderful things (like you are!). Good luck with the store!
