Now. I love maker’s mark. I mean, I’m not a big drinker. But, if I’m feeling particularly wild, I like few things more than a shot or two of maker’s mark. Because – drinking all that soda is bad for you right? Right. So, no need for a chaser. Also, it makes me feel tough, and since I’m not the toughest of girls, this is also a rarity. I relish the requisite “wow, I can’t believe you can drink that straight…” when I ultimately shrug my shoulders and act MUCH cooler or self composed than I actually am.
ANYWHO. That is not why I love maker’s mark today. Today I love makers mark because of its deliberately wonderful gay targeting advertising that appeared on the wall outside of the bathroom in one of my favorite bars. The advertisement read:

COME ON, makers mark, how beautiful are YOU. Now, I know that we nail advertising left and right for being sexist, or sizeist, or any of the myriad of offensive ists, but I for one am extremely partial to main stream advertising that targets queer populations. Its as if the advertisers reached into my little heart and squeezed it with their bare hands [you know, like they do on doctor shows at the climax to save peoples' lives - I've been watching a lot of Grey's Anatomy lately]. Reminds me of the advertisement that I saw on that very same wall once upon a time:
Some people, they take issue with advertising on the whole, frowning upon consumer culture and the entire capitalist system, but me, I love some good advertising. Really. I mean, it also helps that I DO love maker’s mark and I DO want a subaru [hello - four wheel drive]. I also take into account the fact that the majority of gay advertising is skewed towards gay men because on average they have more disposable income than lesbians, but it seems to me that when major industries are expanding their advertising schemes to include the GLBT culture that the world is spinning as it should and gay people are treated just like everyone else – people who are there to tricked by shiny lights and pretty pictures and, ultimately, sold a something.
And thats a start.
